Color identification: The surface of the "worm" part of Cordyceps sinensis is dark yellow to light yellow brown; the "grass" part is the color of dead branches, which is dark brown or light brown.
Look at the cross-section: The folded surface of the "worm" body of Cordyceps sinensis is milky white, similar to the cross-section of the silkworm.
Recognize the appearance: The "worm" part of the main body of Cordyceps sinensis is cylindrical, lighter in color, with small vertical lines on the surface, the top part connected to the "grass" is slightly enlarged, and the grass part is darker and smaller.
Quantity size: The body length of genuine Cordyceps sinensis is 3-5CM, the diameter is 0.3-0.8CM, and it is shaped like an old silkworm that has been dormant for three years. Within this range, the longer and thicker the Cordyceps sinensis, the better the quality.
Remember the number of legs: There are 8 pairs of legs in the whole body, 3 pairs in the head, 4 pairs in the middle, and 1 pair near the tail, of which the 4 pairs in the middle are the most obvious.
Look at the ring patterns: the Cordyceps sinensis ring pattern is rough and obvious, and the ring pattern near the head is thinner, with a total of 20-30 ring patterns.
