Disneyland Diary

I've always loved Disneyland since I was a little girl. Not much has changed now that i'm an adult except for the fact that I get to wear Mickey Mouse ears ;)! I was ecstatic to bring KP here as it was his first time at Disneyland. I Could feel his excitement build up as he walked through the gates with the biggest smile on his face. We were surrounded by vibrant colours, Disney themed food, Disney characters and musical performances during our time here. Everytime I glanced over at KP I noticed that he had the biggest smile on his face.

I wore a beautiful white summer dress from Magali Pascal. I've been pretty obsessed with their new Parisian range with beautiful white lace detailsy. The garment was so comfortable and really helped me to stay cool in the heat of LA.

This won't be my last time visiting Disneyland with KP! It truly is the happiest place on earth and a world I wouldn't mind living in. Now all I have to do is find a way to take all these oversized balloons home with me... ;)

Pier One Sydney

TRAVEL

How is it that when we live in our own city that we often forget to fully explore and appreciate it? Having lived in Sydney for almost eight years now I was quite surprised to have discovered this beautiful hidden gem located right beside the majestic Sydney Harbour Bridge. Built on and over the water, Pier One Sydney celebrates the heritage of Australia at every opportunity.

Killian and I were greeted by two bubbly glasses of champagne upon our arrival. We checked into the Admiral Suite at Pier One Sydney and were left completely speechless as soon as we opened the door. The suite had a sweeping view of the Sydney Harbour and bridge, Luna Park and the Opera House. The bedroom, bathroom and living room all had floor-to-ceiling windows which allowed soft, winter light to pour in. After our intensive eight hour hike to Blue Lake last week (you can read more about our hike here) I was ready for a chilled weekend at this stellar boutique hotel.  Who can say no to a hot bubble bath, movies in bed and in-room dining right?

I'm going to miss this little slice of heaven which is so well removed from the hustle and bustle of city life. I'll be back soon!

EVENT

Having grown up in South Africa, I have always had a love for animals and scenic landscapes. When National Geographic & Optus invited me to the launch of the National Geographic app, it was simply an event I couldn't say no to.

Technology in the 21st century is all about personalised content, whether it's Facebook or Instagram algorithms. Nat Geo has taken it a step further in the wildlife and the natural world, using AI technology to analyse everything about your interests and browsing habits. I was so surprised to see how the app immediately responded to my preferences, filling my feed with my childhood animal loves - giraffes, zebras and elephants, all in that iconic Nat Geo photography style. It even allowed me to zoom in on photos that caught my eye, all inside the app!

The app is available exclusively to Optus mobile customers - all the content is free and, most importantly, doesn't use any of your data (my eternal struggle every month).

Hiking Tips for Blue Lake

TRAVEL

After two very long years of planning and attempting this hike multiple times Killian finally found the perfect method needed in order to make it to Blue Lake in Winter! With the help from our trusty four wheel Land Rover Discovery we drove seamlessly across the snow covered roads. The seat warmers kept us incredibly warm before we stepped out into the strong relentless winds of the Kosciuszko region.

After a treacherous eight hour hike we finally made it!Read up on my hiking tips below:

  • This hiking trail leads through an extreme alpine environment and you have to be well prepared. We brought protein snack bards, cans of tuna, sandwiches, lollies and bottles of water to keep us fuelled up and hydrated.
  • During the hike be prepared for extremely cold weather, high winds, sleet, snow, and extreme UV levels and some sections of snow or ice on the ground. I wore black timberland hiking boots and two pairs of warm thermal socks to keep my feet dry and warm during the hike.
  • Before starting this walk remember to check the weather forecast and snow conditions. It's really important to have strong navigation skills as there was low visibility during our hike and tracks and signage were not visible after three or four hours into the hike!
  • Remember to fill your life with adventures, great friends and lifelong memories. I couldn't have asked for a better weekend trip away!
  • We also made our way in a four wheel drive. It's important to use a car that's capable of handling the snowy weather conditions. A special thank you to Land Rover for being a part of this special trip!

At the lowest point of the the Main Range circuit track is the confluence of the Snowy River and Club Lake Creek. The walking track uses stones in the river to try to get across with dry feet. These creeks may become impassable after rain and snow melt. This is lovely place to rest and enjoy the water and valley.

Truffle Season Makes Everything About Winter Better

FOOD

Three WIlliams has created an entire truffle menu from the month of June! From the delicious sweet potato fries, to the savoury mushroom toasties to the sugary dessert menu! Truffle loaded everything for us carb-lovers is now available! Time to call up the crew I dare say.

Upon arrival and over much contemplation I opted for the truffle toastie of my dreams loaded with mushrooms sautéed in garlic & parsley, packed full with wilted baby spinach and gruyere cheese, finished off with a friend egg and a generous shaving of truffle goodness. It tasted way better than it even looked!

Killian, my partner opted for the roasted peking duck angel hair pasta which consisted of a delicious ginger infused cream sauce, parsley, shaved truffle and friend onion crumb! We were dying to try the dessert menu however we had no space left, guess  that means we'll be back sooner than expected! ;)

DIORSNOW

BEAUTY

I love the packaging and attention to detail of all Dior products. Whether it be a fragrance or a cosmetic product.

This little surprise gift really helped to brighten up my gloomy morning in Sydney. I've never tried the compact powder nor the blush palette from Dior but you know what they say, there's a first for everything!

I was immediately drawn to the beautiful white and minimal aesthetic of the products and found the blush to be a beautiful and soft rosy colour on my skin. During Winter my skin tends to get pale so it was nice to add a bit of colour to it. I also found the compact really lightweight to carry around on the daily in my little purse. Naturally having quite oily skin this product helped to keep it all under control leaving my skin feeling matte whilst correcting the little blemishes so seamlessly on my face.

If you're looking for a bit of spoil-me-gift for yourself or friends and family i'd highly recommend both of these beauties!

I was immediately draw to this intricate Blush n' Bloom palette which literally blossoms with the hues of spring! In a beautiful design evoking fresh flowers pushing up through the snow delicate petals of blush are sprinkled on a pearly powder that natural enhances and illuminates the complexion.

EDWARDS & CO

After bleaching and stripping the pigmentation from my once black silky hair (nine bleaches might I add) it became quite evident to me that remaining blonde was not a feasible option.

What people fail to tell you is that bleach actually destroys your hair the more you use it. I used regular hair treatments from the Joico KPak series to Kerastase as well as trimming the dead and broken ends from the bleach and nothing seemed to work. My hair was left in a frazzled state and I decided it was time to head to Edwards & Co and seek for some hair therapy!

Edwards and Co is directed by leading colourist Jaye Edwards and houses Sydney’s most innovative and fashion forward stylists and makeup artists. I loved the rustic and minimal warehouse interior and upon my arrival I was greeted by Hayden at Edwards & Co who was an absolute gem. After my consultation we decided that i'd go back to my natural colour! Thank you for doing a stellar job on me and to the lovely Joel for the blowdry.

The team was so incredibly professional and I left with a full and healthy, glossy head of black! See you in four weeks for another gloss session. Loving my natural locks! It was fun being blonde for a year but I certainly missed my dark locks. It's good to be back ;)!
